WorkHorse ™ DILATOMETER SYSTEM

Two basic versions are available, the WorkHorse™ I which is a fused silica dilatometer, and the WorkHorse™ II which is an alumina dilatometer. These medium grade, moderately priced instruments are intended for use in development, production, and education. The features are carefully chosen to provide the most frequently needed capabilities with no compromise in quality. The device can be connected to any PC running Windows™. The programming dialog has an easy to follow, interactive format, that can be mastered with very modest training. The extremely small footprint requires a minimum of bench space (only 12 inches of frontage), and it allows close packing of multiple units, side-by-side for maximum space utilization.


Transducer

The digital displacement transducer is an absolute device requiring no periodic calibration. It is not subject to short or long term drifts, gain and null shifts like LVDTs commonly used in dilatometers. The high resolution of the digital transducer, coupled with its long stroke makes this dilatometer a powerful tool for studying sintering, or other densification processes.

Temperature Programming
and Control

A mix of ramps, dwells, soaks, delayed start, and repeat-cycle capability, with a program capacity of 10 thermal cycles (30 segments total), and the ability to store and recall 6 frequently used programs is provided. The temperature program is fully displayed and is editable during a run. All vital test parameters are continuously displayed and updated. Digital temperature control with optimized adaptive routines is used to achieve accurate sample, rather than furnace temperatures.

Data Recording, Analysis, and Reporting

Measured data is recorded and is continuously stored in the computer for further analysis. All test and program parameters along with system correction are also stored in each data set. The provided data reduction and analysis software contains provisions for automatic system calibration, thermocouple linearization and generation of tabulated results. Stored data is automatically processed, including polynomial curve fitting, evaluation of the resultant equation at user selectable points or intervals, and tabulation of results, (percent expansion, average and instantaneous coefficients of thermal expansion) as functions of temperature. Optionally, data files may be exported to third party programs (MS Excel and others) for further processing.
